Corrosion Resistance

Is FRP grating corrosion resistant?

How do you install FRP grating?

Hold-down clips are recommended for easy removal and reinstallation during maintenance. 4) For cutouts around pipes or columns, use a jigsaw with a carbide blade. 5) Leave a 1/8-inch to 1/4-inch expansion gap between panels. 6) Ensure all edges are supported per the manufacturer's span specifications. No welding, special tools, or heavy lifting equipment is required — the lightweight nature of FRP (about 1/4 the weight of steel) makes installation faster and safer.
Can FRP grating be cut and modified on-site?
Yes, FRP grating can be easily cut and modified on-site using standard tools. For straight cuts, a carbide-tipped circular saw or abrasive cut-off saw works best. For curved cuts or notches (around pipes, columns, or obstacles), use a jigsaw with a carbide-grit blade. Holes can be drilled using standard high-speed drill bits. Always wear appropriate PPE (safety glasses, dust mask, gloves) as fiberglass dust can irritate skin and lungs. Cut edges should be sealed with a compatible resin or left as-is — unlike steel, cut edges do not create corrosion concerns. For molded grating, cuts can be made anywhere on the panel. Lifespan & Durability

How long does FRP grating last?
FRP grating has an exceptionally long service life, typically lasting 20 to 30 years or more in most industrial environments. Unlike steel, FRP does not rust or corrode, so its lifespan depends primarily on the resin system used and the environmental conditions. In highly corrosive chemical environments, vinyl ester resin grating can last 15-25+ years, while polyester resin grating in milder conditions can last 20-30+ years. In outdoor UV-exposed installations, adding UV inhibitors to the resin can extend the life significantly. Many FRP grating installations from the 1980s are still in service today with minimal maintenance.
Is FRP grating fire resistant?
FRP grating can be manufactured with fire-retardant resin additives that meet various fire safety standards. Standard polyester resin has a Class III flame spread rating per ASTM E84.
